Pro Bono Opportunity with the South Essex Law Clinic

The South Essex Law Clinic (SELC) offers a valuable pro bono service providing free telephone appointments with qualified Solicitors. This service is available to residents and individuals working in the South Essex local authority areas of Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point, Thurrock, and Rochford. As a satellite service of Citizens Advice South Essex, SELC has been dedicated to offering legal advice to the community since 2020.

Volunteering Opportunity

We are seeking qualified Solicitors in the below listed areas of law to provide pro bono advice over the telephone for a maximum of 30 minutes:

  • Civil litigation
  • Employment
  • Housing
  • Wills & probate

Our current team of Solicitors offers appointments ranging from one to four per week, while some volunteers provide appointments every other week. SELC is flexible and can accommodate your schedule when arranging appointments for the South Essex community.

What will volunteers gain from this opportunity?

SELC covers a region with over half a million people facing complex and diverse legal issues. By volunteering, you will be supporting individuals who lack the means to access legal advice and have nowhere else to turn for help. As a volunteer, you will have access to a comprehensive range of resources and training provided by LawWorks to enhance your ability to provide this vital support. Our existing Solicitors benefit from the triage service provided to clients by Citizens Advice South Essex's general advice service.

Person Specification

We are seeking qualified solicitors who are currently practicing and registered with the SRA and who have an expertise in Civil litigation, Employment, Housing or Wills & Probate.
