Pro Bono Opportunity with Royal Holloway University Legal Advice Centre

At Royal Holloway University Legal Advice Centre, students, staff and external solicitor volunteers provide free legal advice and assistance to individuals who are not eligible for legal aid and cannot afford to pay for legal advice. The clinic covers a wide variety of areas of law including contract, consumer, general civil litigation, housing, personal injury and wills & probate.

Volunteering opportunity

Royal Holloway University Legal Advice Centre are looking for volunteer qualified solicitors specialising in:

  • contract
  • consumer
  • general civil litigation
  • housing
  • personal injury
  • wills & probate

Student Advisors take initial instructions from clients.  Following the appointment, the clinic's in-house solicitors will review the matter and if it is suitable for their assistance, the client will be provided with written advice within four weeks of the appointment.

If a matter is too complex for the students and in-house solicitors to provide initial written advice, the clinic would like to refer it to an external volunteer solicitor. The solicitor would then review the students’ referral brief and provide the client with 30 minutes of free remote verbal advice.

Advice is covered by the clinic's professional indemnity insurance.

Person specification

Volunteers must be qualified solicitors (with practising certificates) who are experienced in one of the areas of law listed above.  Trainees are welcome to assist the clinic but would need to be supervised by a qualified solicitor from the firm.

Time commitment

There is no minimum time commitment - the clinic is flexible and open to discuss arrangements that suit availability of firms.
