Pro Bono Opportunity with University of Law East Manchester Legal Advice Clinic

The clinic operates in partnership with Manchester Settlement at the New Roundhouse in Openshaw, a community in which there are many challenges, including high levels of poverty, illiteracy and unemployment.

The University of Law East Manchester Legal Advice Clinic offers initial written legal advice to clients in the East Manchester area following a student led interview.

Volunteering Opportunity:

We currently have volunteering opportunities available to supervise student volunteers’ research and drafting work by telephone/email.

No attendance at interview is necessary as supervision can be carried out remotely.

All areas of specialism considered but particularly:

  • Employment
  • Family
  • Landlord & Tenant
  • Consumer

Person specification - what type of volunteers is the clinic looking for?

One year qualified solicitor/barrister/legal executive with good written communication skills and a good level of commitment. Work is remote, so geographical location not important.

What will the time commitment be?

3-5 hours once every quarter year.

What will volunteers get out of this?

We offer a great service to clients in an area of Manchester where free legal advice is much needed. Volunteer solicitors will work with aspiring solicitors who want to help the local community.  We hope volunteer solicitors will find both aspects very rewarding.

University of Law pro bono staff will contact potential supervisors to discuss and explain the process as well as providing a comprehensive but succinct policy document.

What email address should enquiries and applications be sent to?
