Volunteering Opportunity
University of Law’s LAC North are currently seeking qualifed family, employment and housing law solicitors to support their clinics.
Ahead of each clinic session, volunteer solicitors will receive a concise case summary and triage notes prepared by student volunteers. During the client appointment, the volunteer solicitor will provide verbal advice to the client based on the information supplied in the triage notes.
Student volunteers will attend the appointment with the volunteer solicitor and subsequently prepare a written letter of advice reflecting the advice provided by the solicitor. The volunteer solicitor will then review and approve the draft letter of advice before it is sent to the client by the clinic.
All volunteering is conducted remotely.
Professional indemnity insurance is provided by the clinic.
Person specification
Volunteers must be 3+ years’ PQE with a current practising certificate and specialising in family, employment or employment law. Volunteers under 3 years’ PQE are welcome to volunteer with appropriate supervision from someone 3+ years PQE within the firm.
Time commitment
Clinic sessions are usually scheduled to run from 30-45 minutes and can take place at any time or day to suit volunteer solicitors.
The time commitment is usually one clinic per month which represents 1-2 hours of time (this includes the client appointment and time checking the letter of advice which is drafted by students in the first instance).
