Volunteering opportunity
Kent Law Clinic are looking for additional volunteer solicitors to deliver free legal advice in the clinic's Monday evening advice sessions. During each session, volunteer solicitors will see 3 clients for 40 minutes each.
Ahead of each clinic session, the clinic and firm will conduct conflict checks and volunteer solicitors will receive a concise case summary. Two students will attend each appointment to observe and take detailed notes.
Following the appointment, volunteer solicitors will provide a written summary of the advice given.
Clinic appointments usually take place remotely (via Zoom) although some in-person sessions are hosted at the Law Clinic (Canterbury).
Person Specification
Volunteers must be qualified solcitors, barristers or legal executives currently in practice. The clinic is particularly seeking volunteers with expertise in civil litigation and contentious probate although they welcome enquiries from volunteers specialising in civil litigation, family, housing and wills & probate.
Time Commitment
Volunteers will be expected to support at least 2 clinic sessions per academic year (between October - May).
For each Monday evening advice session, volunteers are asked to attend by 5:50pm and be available until 8:00pm. Prior to the advice session, volunteers will need to complete a conflict check. Following the advice session, volunteers will need to provide a written summary of the advice given.
