Volunteering Opportunity
RLAS offers a weekly in-person drop-in advice on Tuesday evenings. RLAS can only provide free legal advice and assistance with the help of its volunteers and is currently looking for more solicitor volunteers.
It is expected that solicitor volunteers will support the clinic one Tuesday evening once every 4 - 5 weeks between 19:30 to 21:30.
The commitment of volunteer solicitors is limited to the advice session and no follow up work is required.
Person specification
Volunteers need to be a solicitor (who has completed their training contract and has been admitted as a solicitor) or a trainee solicitor.
RLAS do not require expertise in any specific area of law as their aim has always been to provide initial and basic advice.
Next steps
If you would like more information or would like to volunteer, please contact Victor Woroner at rlas@rlas.org.uk. The process of becoming a volunteer solicitor is as follows:
- sit in on and observe at two advice sessions - the potential volunteer is invited to sit in on at least 2 different RLAS advice sessions (to enable the potential volunteer to decide whether RLAS is right for them). The potential volunteer role is only to observe how an advice session is run.
- complete an application form—the potential volunteer is asked to complete an application form and provide evidence of qualifications
- the trustees consider the potential volunteer's application
- once accepted, the potential volunteer starts volunteering from a date agreed with the trustees and then is included on the rota
