Family law - Briefing for Parliamentarians

LawWorks has produced a briefing on family law issues for MPs and Peers in collaboration with the Litigants in Person Support Strategy partners and the Advice Services Alliance.

The briefing highlights issues for family law and the family justice system and the challenges for families and their rights raised by the Covid-19 pandemic. It includes briefings on two critically important Bills before Parliament:

  • The Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Bill, and
  • The Domestic Abuse Bill.

As well as covering these key legislative reforms, issues raised include: the importance of access to early legal advice, assisted digital support with the online process, special measures in the courts, and the importance of judicial training.

The Litigants in Person Support (LIPS) Strategy is a national partnership to improve the experience of people facing the legal process alone.

The Advice Services Alliance (ASA) is the umbrella body for independent advice services and networks in the UK.
