New clinics launched since January 2017

A number of new clinics have joined the LawWorks Clinics Network so far this year - the following provides a brief description. All clinics in the Network are listed on the LawWorks website.

Regions

University of Worcester - The University of Worcester established a new Law School in 2016. Working with local solicitors, and supported by students from the Law school, the clinic provides employment law advice to members of the public.

Criminal Justice Clinic - The clinic operates as a community outreach programme where students from the University of Sussex provide written advice on matters of prisoner rights/welfare. This clinic is an expansion in addition to other clinics the University of Sussex already operate.

Derby Child Contact Centre - Located in a child contact centre, this innovative model allows parents to access free legal advice in relation to family law matters whilst using the services of the centre.

Exeter Court Clinic - The clinic operates in partnership with the Personal Support Unit at Exeter combined court. A rota of family law solicitors and barristers provide advice to LIPS involved in family court proceedings.

BPP Enterprise Clinic - The clinic provides initial advice in the areas of business law, contract, data protection and civil litigation to clients with small businesses.

London

Romford Autism Hub - The clinic provides pro bono legal advice in areas of contract, education, family and housing law solely to clients who access the Romford Autism Hub.

PopLaw Whitechapel - A partnership between Dentons and Queen Mary's University, the clinic builds on the success of the first PopLaw clinic in Poplar, providing advice on issues including debt, housing, consumer matters, welfare benefits and employment.

Brixton Advice Centre - This centre opened in 1966 as a Family Advice Centre operated by a group of volunteers from the then Children’s Department of Lambeth Borough Council. LawWorks have supported the centre to transition from an ad hoc pro bono service, to an operational clinic, assisting with the establishment of a defined infrastructure and helping with the recruitment of legal volunteers.

KCL - Pro Bono Legal Advice Clinic - Students from Kings College London work under the supervision of a qualified lawyer to provide clients with written advice in a range of areas of law.

BPP Enterprise Clinic London - Launched June 2017.
