Windrush claims

This session will focus on advising Windrush compensation claimants.

The ‘Windrush scandal’ surfaced in 2017 after it emerged that hundreds of Commonwealth citizens, many of whom were from the ‘Windrush’ generation, had been wrongly detained, deported and denied legal rights.

Delivered by Cecilia Coreale of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI), this session will focus on advising on Windrush compensation claimants.

The session will cover:

  • Introduction and background to the Windrush scandal and the Government's response;
  • The compensation scheme;
  • Practical tips on preparing effective applications;
  • Case studies;
  • Lessons learned and challenges, including appeals.
