Mortgages: An introduction to mortgage law

Delivered by Cecily Crampin, a barrister practising property law from Falcon Chambers, this is an introductory session for those who are new to housing and residential property law issues. There will then be follow up session in the next couple of weeks looking in more detail at mortgage regulation, the interventions of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in response to Covid-19, and their relevance to court proceedings.

This introductory session will cover:-

  • What is a mortgage
  • Mortgages and registration
  • Mortgage remedies, with an emphasis on mortgage possession claims
  • A brief introduction on regulation in the context of court claims

The session will be delivered over Zoom.

Cecily Crampin is a barrister practising property law from Falcon Chambers. She practises in all areas of property law, with a particular interest in mortgage law. With Stephanie Tozer QC she is the co-author of Mortgage Receivership: Law and Practice (Wildys 2018)
