LawWorks Clinics Network InfoExchange Session on supervision

The March LawWorks Clinics Network InfoExchange Session provided an opportunity for clinic coordinators across the network to learn more about supervision of a pro bono clinic, meeting SRA requirements and delivering business benefits.

The LawWorks Roundtable scheduled for 2 March 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, instead the LawWorks Clinics Team provided clinic coordinators, administrators and volunteers the opportunity to attend the session online via Zoom on March 31st.

Vicky Ling, Consultant specialising in legal aid practice and a founder member of the Law Consultancy Network, outlined the SRA Standards and Regulations in relation to supervision, discussed what supervision involves in practice and how it can be implemented in a clinic setting to allow trainees/paralegals to participate in pro bono advice.

Zac Kuyinu, Trainee at Shoosmiths LLP, shared his firm’s experience of setting up and supervising their pro bono clinic in Milton Keynes, in which trainees are heavily involved. Zac also shared some valuable challenges and benefits trainees encounter in the advice delivery process.
