Employment Tribunal Advocacy

Delivered by a former employment tribunal judge, this session is intended for those who have a basic knowledge of employment law and procedure (unfair dismissal in particular).

The session provides delegates with the basic skills and knowledge to present a case in the employment tribunal, including examination-in-chief, cross-examination, re-examination and final submissions. It focuses on advocacy rather than advice, preparation or negotiation.

The session covers:

  • knowledge of the various tasks which an advocate ought to take in preparing for an employment tribunal case;
  • awareness of what is involved in the various skills relating to witness handling; and,
  • awareness of the content and structure of a closing submission
