Pro bono opportunity with the City University Free Legal Advice Clinic (Wills and Probate)

We provide free legal advice to clients who cannot afford to pay for advice. We are looking for solicitors with experience in wills and probate who can supervise students in advising clients. Clients are triaged by the pro bono coordinator, students then undertake legal research and design a conference plan. Students then interview the client in a team to fill in gaps and seek further documentation and draft a letter of advice, which will be guided and supervised by a volunteer solicitor to ensure legal accuracy.

What are you looking for volunteers to help with?

We are looking for a private client solicitor to help us with Wills and Probate clients that come to the clinic and supervise our Post Graduate LPC students on giving advice (by letter) on Wills and Probate matters.

What will the time commitment be?

we require around 5 hours of commitment per client. So far this year we have had three wills and or probate enquiries, which are all complex. The clinic is remote and will continue to be in the future. We can use Teams or Zoom or telephone conference to suit your timings. You do not need to be present in the student interview. Supervision can be undertaken by exchange of emails or on zoom or teams.

What will volunteers get out of this?

Helping clients in often desperate need while also supporting very bright, engaged students in their learning and future careers. We do have training budget if required.

Person specification - what type of volunteers are you looking for?

Private client solicitors with 5 years PQE.

Application process - is there any information you would like applicants to provide?

Please email the Clinic at CityLegalAdvice@City.ac.uk if you are interested in learning more.
