Pro Bono Opportunity with Chelmsford Law Clinic (immigration law)

Chelmsford Law Clinic is based in Chelmsford, Essex. Established in 2018 offering 2 areas of law, the clinic has now grown to offer 10 different areas of law. The Clinic is part of the LawWorks Clinics Network and runs a fully remote national service.

Volunteering Opportunity

The clinic has experienced an influx of local asylum seekers, from Ukraine and Afghanistan and require assistance for their enquiries plus any other immigration matters that may arise.  To do this they are now looking for a fully qualified pro bono immigration solicitor Level OISC level 2 or above to provide a 2-hour remote slot once each month.  The slot will comprise of up to 4 clients each for a 30-minute phone appointment.

Time commitment

They are asking the probono volunteer to offer 2 hours each month. Sessions normally run on either a Tuesday or a Friday. Sessions times can vary, and normally run either in the morning from 10am to 12 noon, or in the afternoon from 1pm to 3pm, or evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The volunteer will work autonomously and will be expected to provide after session notes to the Chelmsford Law Clinic.

What will the volunteers get out of this

The probono volunteer will be able to use their valuable skills and experience in new ways to help vulnerable people who would not otherwise have access to legal advice.  Pro bono experience enhances a CV, and contributing to the community can lead to positive health and psychological benefits, including a renewed sense of purpose.

As a volunteer with a probono clinic on the LawWorks Clinics Network, you will have access to a comprehensive range of resources and training provided by LawWorks to enhance your ability to provide this vital support.
