The Monday evening legal advice sessions operate as an adjunct to the daytime advice centre. The underlying aim is to give initial advice to anyone who attends. The type of legal advice is varied but the main types which arise are consumer problems, matrimonial and family matters, general private client matters, general Court matters and employment matters.
For more information see www.centre70.org.uk
To provide advice in the matters mentioned above if a qualified lawyer or assist the adviser if a trainee solicitor or pupil.
What will the time commitment be?
The sessions are held every Monday from 7pm – 8.30/9pm at Centre 70 Advice Centre, 46 Knights Hill, London, SE27 0JD, directly opposite West Norwood train station with good links to London Bridge and Victoria, and on a number of bus routes.
Generally two volunteers attend the session each week and are on the rota roughly every four to six weeks, or more frequent if they want. Volunteers should be able to commit for a minimum of 6 months. New volunteers usually sit in on a few sessions to begin with.
What will volunteers get out of this?
The clinic is an important part of Centre 70's services and volunteers have expressed how they find the work rewarding. There is opportunity to be involved in the delivery and development of the service.
"I feel that it's really important vulnerable and / or low income members of the community have access to justice via the free legal advice provided by Centre 70. I have learnt a lot and it is great to be able to provide this help"
