Pro Bono Opportunity to work with South Wales Employment Law Pro-Bono clinic

The South Wales Pro-Bono Employment Law Clinic, founded in 2015, is run by the Speakeasy Law Centre in Cardiff. The Speakeasy has been running for more than 30 years with the motto of 'Sharing the burden, fighting injustice, bringing hope'. It is currently Wales’ only Law Centre. The clinic offers free, one-off advice on areas of employment law such as discrimination, dismissal, disciplinaries and the employment tribunal process to anyone living in South Wales via in-person and online appointments.

What is the clinic looking for volunteers to do?

Volunteers will provide free, one-off 30-40 minute advice sessions to individuals facing barriers to accessing legal advice regarding employment issues.

What will the time commitment be?

The clinic operates every other Wednesday for two hours, with solicitor volunteers rotated based on availability. Volunteers can commit to as few as one or two sessions per year.

Volunteers can join appointments via video call, so no travel is required, but if they prefer, they can attend the Speakeasy for in-person appointments.

What will volunteers get out of this?

This is a great opportunity to gain more claimant experience whilst supporting Wales' only Law Centre to deliver much-needed advice to individuals across South Wales. Volunteers will also have opportunities to meet other employment lawyers across South Wales.

Person specification - what type of volunteers is the clinic looking for?

The clinic is looking for lawyers with at least two years post qualifying experience and a background in employment law to join its successful volunteer team.
