Pro bono opportunity with Tower Hamlets Law Centre's Employment Tribunal Duty Scheme

Tower Hamlets Law Centre’s Employment Tribunal Duty scheme offers free help and representation with case management at Preliminary Hearings. This includes completing the Agenda and helping the Claimant to appropriately shape their claim in the List of Issues as well as representing the Claimant at the Preliminary Hearing itself.

Volunteering opportunity

The scheme has now grown to a point that the Law Centre is unable to meet the demand for the service in-house. The Law Centre are looking for trainees, pupils or junior lawyers, who could represent the Claimant before the Employment Tribunal for their case management at Preliminary Hearing. There is no on-going case work obligation beyond this point. Volunteers will be fully briefed on the case, including the nature of the claims and any applications that are sought by either party. Volunteers will be given on-boarding training, a supervisor will be available throughout the life of the case to answer any queries a volunteer has; and a full debrief will be taken after the hearing.

Person specification

The Law Centre are looking for 2 or 3 volunteers who would, after training, commit to doing 2 Preliminary Hearings over 6 months. Ideally they are looking for qualified junior lawyers who have knowledge of employment and discrimination law, who are looking for Tribunal exposure. However, volunteers who have completed the LPC or BTC and did the employment law option may be accepted on merit.
