Pro bono opportunity with Durham Pro Bono Clinic

Durham Pro Bono Clinic is a collaboration between law students at Durham University and Citizens Advice County Durham. The clinic provides free employment law advice to local residents that can't afford to pay for legal advice and who are referred to the clinic by Citizens Advice Country Durham.

Volunteering opportunity

Durham Pro Bono Clinic is looking for volunteer qualified solicitors specialising in employment law.

Volunteers can either support the clinic remotely or attend in-person appointments at Citizens Advice County Durham.  Solicitors can expect to see two clients in 45-minute appointment slots.

Durham Pro Bono Clinic operates on alternate Wednesday afternoons but the clinic is flexible about how often volunteer solicitors wish to be on the clinic rota.

The service provided is one-off, initial verbal legal advice.

Law students from Durham University are responsible for triaging client enquiries, providing a case summary and party names to volunteer solicitors in advance of appointments and booking the client appointments.

Person specification

Solicitors with a current practicing certificate with expertise in employment law.

Solicitors advising in the clinic will need to be covered by their firms’ Professional Indemnity Insurance.
