Student Pro Bono Outside of your Law School

Current Students

If you are an undergraduate or postgraduate law student and you would like to undertake some legal pro bono work then we suggest that you first contact your faculty to see if there are any opportunities for you there.  We work closely with many law schools around the country to help set up activities for you. Click here for information on student pro bono within your law school and check out your law schools activities on our database.

In the event that there is nothing currently on offer you have two options:

1 - Get together with some other law students and form your own student pro bono group.  We are happy to assist in giving you some ideas on how to get started and can put you in touch with other student groups that you might find it useful to speak to.

Contact Sasha Nicoletti for further information.

2 - Look for opportunities outside of your law school - see section below on current opportunities.

Finished Law School?

If you've left law school but have not yet entered the wonderful world of work, or are currently on a break from work then the same opportunities apply, if not more given the additional experience you now have under your belt.  So please read on...

Current Opportunities

For paid job opportunities and trusteeships click here.

For current student volunteering vacancies click here.

For general ideas on places you might volunteer, click here for a document which contains a table of organisations that may have opportunities available.  The table indicates which organisations may have opportunities which are suitable for students.  Admittedly this is a case of trial and error.  An organisation may take student volunteers at one branch and not in another.  It all depends on the vacancies they have and also their previous experience of student volunteers.

Commitment

Remember to treat a voluntary commitment the same as you would a normal paid position.  Make it clear from the outset what sort of commitment you can give and then be sure to fulfil that expectation.  If you do not, you may jeopardise your position and that of other potential law student volunteers.

Looking for volunteers?

If you are part of an organisation that would benefit from having law student volunteers then please let us know and we will add you to our list and publicise vacancies and events to the law student pro bono network.  You can contact Sasha Nicoletti to advertise an opportunity.
