LawWorks Peer Mediation - Course Content

The LawWorks Student Mediation Training consists of:

  • an interactive seminar on Conflict Resolution (1-2 hours) where students learn how to communicate without causing conflict and how to resolve disputes through mediation.  The seminar is supported by a PowerPoint presentation and film clips.
  • a day of Mediation Skills Training (5 hours) involving a mediation re-enactment, practical exercises to develop mediation skills and 2 hours of role play where students act as mediator, party-in-dispute and observer, giving feedback.  Click here for details.

Students who complete both parts of the course will receive a Certificate of Completion of The LawWorks Student Mediation Training. Schools can decide just to receive the seminar on Conflict Resolution.  The course supports the teaching of personal and emotional skills through PSHE and Citizenship.

If a school wishes to proceed with establishing a peer mediation scheme, LawWorks may work with other partners (for example a local community mediation service) to provide the students and teachers with the necessary additional and ongoing training.
