19 October 2010 - launch of the National Pro Bono Centre. Attorney General, Dominic Greive QC MP, said, "I'm very pleased to be invited to mark the opening of the National Pro Bono Centre and I'm impressed by the professionalism and dedication shown by all involved in making this centre happen. I am sure it will be a place where professionals will share their ideas, experiences and their projects. The work done in the name of pro bono is indispensible. It makes a real difference to peope who need legal help but cannot afford to pay for it. I congratulate everyone who helped make this centre possible. 11 October 2010 - World Day Against the Death Penalty was supported by Amicus, at an event hosted by the College of Law in London.
2-3 & 30-31 October 2010 - Amicus and Reprieve held their Death Penalty Training weekends.
25-30 October 2010 - Trustees Week 2010. The Charity Commission, in partnership with Charity Trustee Networks (CTN), the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), Reach Volunteering, Getting on Board and the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales), is to launch the first annual Trustees’ Week.
Trustees’ Week will take place from 25 to 31 October. The week and the supporting campaign celebrate the fantastic work done by existing trustees and aim to increase awareness and understanding of the trustee role. The campaign is being supported by a number of high-profile trustees, including newscaster, Jon Snow; cricketer, Andrew Flintoff; former newspaper editor and journalist, Eve Pollard; model, Natalia Vodianova; former newsreader and journalist, Martyn Lewis and actresses, Brooke Kinsella and Jenny Seagrove.
The Trustees’ Week website will be updated regularly in the run-up to 25 October with information about the campaign and details of events and activities planned by charities and other organisations. If you are organising a Trustees’ Week event you can send details to trusteesweek@charitycommission.gsi.gov.uk and the information will be included on the website.
