National Pro Bono Week 2011
This year's National Pro Bono Week will be held from 7 to 11 November 2011.
National Pro Bono Week 2010
November 8th - 12th
National Pro Bono Week comprises events across the country celebrating the range and impact of pro bono activity undertaken by solicitors, barristers and legal executives. Every year, solicitors in England and Wales provide hundreds of millions of pounds worth of free legal advice to people in need who cannot afford legal fees.
National Pro Bono Week 2010 started with the launch of LawWorks project Life After Law, a programme for retired lawyers seeking to help the most vulnerable people in the community.
The National Pro Bono Centre held an open day to showcase its work. The three pro bono organisations within the Centre (LawWorks, the Bar Pro Bono Unit and ILEX Pro Bono Forum) were available to discuss their work. Many visitors came from legal organisations based in and around the Centre's home at Chancery lane. We also received a visit from the National Pro Bono Resource Centre team from Australia.
LawWorks held a successful round-table debate for in-house counsel on pro bono partnership working. In-house counsel are increasingly joining LawWorks to access quality pro bono projects that are covered by insurance and SRA requirements.
The week finished with the LawWorks Student Conference held in Birmingham on November 12th.
