LawWorks Mediational Panel
Mediation can be an effective way of resolving disputes of all kinds and is now available to everyone. We offer free mediations in England and Wales, for disputes where one of the parties is unable to afford to pay for the services of a mediator. The mediation is free to all parties.
How it works
Many types of civil and commercial disputes can go to mediation and it has proved particularly successful in the following areas: housing, consumer, employment, property, wills and debt. Mediation can save everyone a great deal of time and money, as well as the emotional trauma of a court case, especially those without the means to access legal help.
Applications are reviewed by a senior solicitor. We appoint a pro bono mediator and in many cases offer applicants a pro bono legal adviser. We also run a web-based mediation placement service for smaller cases, many of which are suitable for telephone mediation.
How mediators can help
LawWorks Mediation has a panel of around 180 accredited mediators volunteering to do pro bono mediations for our applicants - but we are happy to add others. They have a wide range of expertise and are spread across England and Wales. We also have a web-based system for placing more straightforward cases for telephone mediation. Those already on the panel have rated our management of the process as excellent.
How lawyers can help
We try to offer our applicants a free legal adviser for the mediation. If you are a lawyer interested in helping as a pro bono adviser, we would like to hear from you. It is a great way to see how mediation works, while providing invaluable advice to our applicant and increasing the likehood of settlement.
Who we help
Individuals and not-for-profit organisations from Citizens Advice Bureaux or other agencies, our own Mediation Advisory Clinics, other LawWorks' projects and the Bar Pro Bono Unit. Lawyers in private practice who act for clients on a pro bono basis, or are aware that the other party cannot afford the cost of mediation, also refer cases to us.
