About Us

Our Mission Statement

"We are LawWorks - the country’s leading legal pro bono charity for solicitors, in-house counsel, mediators and students.

Working in partnership, we identify need, broker casework and connect volunteer
lawyers with communities nationwide. Every year, we enable hundreds of
voluntary organisations and tens of thousands of individuals to benefit from
the support of over 25,000 lawyers.

We build links. We innovate and inspire. We ensure access to free legal expertise for those with nowhere else to go. Working with the best of the legal profession, we help lawyers to help those in need.

LawWorks. At the heart of legal volunteering."

LawWorks is a charity which aims to provide free legal help to individuals and community groups who cannot afford to pay for it and who are unable to access legal aid.

In the last year LawWorks helped provide free legal advice to over 40,000 people and around 350 voluntary sector organisations.

We work with just under 100 member law firms and teams of in-house counsel, as well as mediators, law students and solicitors who have been made redundant (see our Choices project), involving them all in pro bono work.

LawWorks is the operating name of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group.

“It's just fantastic - have used it a few times and we have saved thousands of pounds in legal fees.  The quality of service is also always superb.”

The National Pro Bono Centre

LawWorks is based in the National Pro Bono Centre. The Centre houses the profession's national clearing houses for legal pro bono work delivered in England and Wales: the Bar Pro Bono Unit, LawWorks and ILEX Pro Bono Forum. It is designed to be a "hub" for pro bono charities in the sector and supports the wide range of pro bono projects and brokerage which the charities support, helping individuals and community groups all over England and Wales.
