Spacemax

 Request for housing law expert

Spacemax is a community organisation consisting of a team of local architects, carpenters and practical people who act as a volunteer handymen-and-women service for tenants of council housing in London.

Much of the work that Spacemax does focuses on maximising the use of the space available for example, by organising storage facilities and recycling unused furniture. Everything is done in consultation with the family. The organisation also seeks to maximise community benefit by involving young people as apprentices wherever possible, so that they can learn carpentry and other skills involved.

As Spacemax works with tenants from various housing associations and councils, they are looking for a housing law expert to be involved with the organisation on a long term basis. It is envisaged that the individual would attend Spacemax’s team meetings once or twice a year. Spacemax’s current challenge is to address the issue of overcrowding for some of the council tenants with whom they are working, without affecting their rent or tenancy agreement.

Spacemax has lately expanded from operating only in the borough of Wandsworth, to offering its services to residents of Hammersmith and Fulham.
