Calling all solicitors with environmental or planning law experience!

Are you interested in a pro bono opportunity with a difference?

The Friends of the Earth Rights & Justice Centre is committed to working with the communities most affected by environmental problems.  We operate a free advice line, providing high quality legal advice to people who are concerned about the impact of public authority decisions on their community and their local environment. As a volunteer advisor, you will give preliminary advice to people who contact the advice line, who may feel that they have not been properly consulted about changes in their area or simply be unsure about what their rights are. Some cases may be either taken up by the Rights and Justice Centre or passed on to another organisation that can help.

The advice line is staffed by volunteers and is open on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, supervised by lawyers from the Rights & Justice Centre. We operate a rota and your likely time commitment would be one evening in eight weeks.

If you are interested and would like more information, please contact us on 0207 566 1682, at legal@foe.co.uk, or by post to: Friends of the Earth Rights & Justice Centre, 26-28 Underwood St, London N1 7JQ.

The Friends of the Earth Rights and Justice Centre works to strengthen environmental justice through providing legal advice, representation and training to communities and individuals, including conducting public interest litigation. Other pro bono opportunities at the Centre include taking on discrete pieces of legal research, project work and assisting communities with, for example, planning enquiries.  In addition, we offer 3-6 month internships that may be of interest to trainee/ junior solicitors. Please get in touch with us for more details.
