LawWorks for Community Groups
LawWorks for Community Groups brokers free legal advice to small charities, not-for-profit, voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises in England and Wales. We do this using our network of lawyers in member law firms and in-house legal teams.
If your community group is eligible for support through the project, we can help you access legal advice on a wide range of issues, including company and charity law, contract, employment, intellectual property, tax and VAT, property, insurance and insolvency.
How does the project work?
1. To apply, fill in our online application form, giving as much information as possible
2. Send a copy of your latest accounts, business plan or other financial information (details on application form)
3. Project caseworkers will review the application, ask for any further information and work with you to understand the scope of the advice you require and will decide whether to accept the application
4. If your application is approved, project caseworkers then try and match you with a volunteer lawyer to provide you will the legal advice you require for free (we never guarantee that we will be able to place an approved application, but we hope to place most applications within three weeks of approval)
For more information about how the project works, including eligibility criteria, please see our frequently asked questions.
